Personal Background

Leonard Buscemi’s grandparents emigrated to the United States from Italy in the early 1900’s. His paternal grandfather, first worked as a Pennsylvania coal miner, then as a grocer and his maternal grandfather w
as a bricklayer. Both eventually settled their families in Niagara Falls, New York.

Leonard’s father was one of seven children, an amateur boxer and for 37 years a crane operator in the local Union Carbide factory. His mother was one of nine children. In addition to raising three college graduates, over her lifetime she worked as a seamstress, poll worker, and in several office clerical and administrative jobs. Born December 18, 1953, Leonard grew up with his parents, his paternal grandfather, and two sisters, as well as, a very large extended family of 26 aunts and uncles, and over 60 cousins who all lived in the City of Niagara Falls.

In 1978 Leonard married his wife Francesca, a graduate of Niagara University and Pennsylvania State University and former language teacher (Italian/Spanish/English). Ever since the Law Office of Leonard P. Buscemi was established on July 2, 1985, Francesca has been the office’s bookkeeper and its most valuable assistant. They live in their first home, in the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia where they raised two children, now adults.
